We know that searching for a new job is a big undertaking. That’s why Hero2Hired (H2H) was created: to make it easy for Reserve Component service members to connect to and find jobs with military-friendly companies. H2H also offers career exploration tools, military-to-civilian skills translations, education and training resources, as well as a mobile app. Support for H2H is provided through the Department of Defense’s Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program.

ESGR understands the unique talents and skill set Guard and Reserve Service members can bring to the civilian workforce. To make this arrangement work, both parties must be aware of their rights and responsibilities under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA). ESGR is here to help! With an ESGR committee in each state, territory and the District of Columbia, there is an ESGR representative able to help you forge a stronger bond with your supervisor through a greater understanding of your military service.
Veterans from all periods of military service are eligible for job referral, job training and job placement assistance through the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC). Veterans may access these employment services through a statewide network of VEC Local offices and the Veterans Services Staff (DVOP and LVER) who are assigned to most, but not all, of the VEC Local Offices across Virginia. Please visit your nearest VEC Local Offices to see if a Veteran’s Representative is available.
VETS serves America’s veterans and separating service members by preparing them for meaningful careers, providing employment resources and expertise, and protecting their employment rights.
VetSuccess.gov is a comprehensive one-stop site for Veteran and Servicemember employment needs. Veterans can browse job listings, post resumes, and apply for positions directly on the site. Employers can post jobs, view Veteran resumes, and receive job applications.
On the Job Apprenticeship Training
- This program assists veterans and their dependents by allowing them to learn a trade or skill through participation in apprenticeship or on-the-job training rather than by attending classes.
- One generally enters into a training contract for a specific period of time with an employer or union and at the end of the training period has gained job certification or journeyman status. In most instances one receives a salary from their employer or union while participating in training. As one progresses through training, their skill level increases and so does their salary. GI Bill payments are issued monthly after we receive certification of hours worked from the employer.
- The Returning Heroes Tax Credit is a new hiring tax credit that incentives firms to hire unemployed veterans.
- The Wounded Warrior Tax Credit doubles the existing tax credit for long-term unemployed veterans with service-connected disabilities.

Educate employers of all sizes to navigate and leverage the systems available so they can access these proven Americans and meet their organization’s hiring and retention needs. V3’s primary focus is on Virginia’s companies with less than 1,000 employees. These companies collectively represent the overwhelming majority of the total hiring demand, and connecting them with the primary hiring and retention requirement, Initial Entry Teammates, is one of the goals. V3 will also be looking for enterprise companies to serve as models for their supply chain vendors and other smaller companies (teaching companies how to fish, not fishing for companies)
